Wollaston Lawn Tennis Club was formed on 1932 and moved to its present location at Stourton in 1965, at which time it laid down four red shale courts and constructed a small timber framed clubhouse and changing rooms. Membership at the time was 96.
As part of an ongoing policy of expansion and improvement, the Club subsequently aquired two further tranches of land and laid down four additional courts with floodlights. The premises have been extended and improved several times over the years, most recently in 1991 when, with the assistance of the Foundation for Sport and the Arts, a complete reconstruction of the toliets, changing rooms and showers was achieved.
In 1996 the original four red shale courts were converted to four floodlit artificial grass courts in a project costing over £100,000 which was supported by the National Lottery Sports Fund to the extent of £71,414 and by the Lawn Tennis Association who provided an interest free loan. The new courts were laid in May 1996 and have been a tremendous success with club members, so much so that in 1999 the club converted its remaining 4 courts to artificial grass from red shale and also upgraded its current floodlights. The club now has eight floodlit artificial grass courts which can be played on all year round.
Wollaston Lawn Tennis Club today is a thriving family tennis club which caters for all abilities and ages of player. The Current Membership is 300+
